The graphical user interface (GUI) is the element of a computer system that must provide a simple and efficient interaction between the user and the system. In an expert system for conceptual design of cogeneration plants, there is two way interaction. In the user-system interaction, the user informs to the system the design requirements (input data); in the system-user interaction, the system presents a graphical representation of the created concepts and the explanations that lead the systems to these concepts (output data). Despite the ergonomics and friendly use issues, the main challenge of this work is to integrate the knowledge base with the interface, because the first is developed in CLIPS and the later is developed in a conventional visual programming environment (C++, for instance). The present proposal presents the main activities related to the development of a GUI by the undergraduate student, under the guidance of the responsible researcher. (AU)
