Abstract

With the development of environmental protection policy evidenced in recent years, the aviation industry has included as an important point of design of new airplanes, the noise impact caused by their surfaces during flight, especially during landing, as is the time where the airplane is closer to the adjacent communities and has activated their high-lift surfaces, mainly responsible for noise pollution from aircrafts nowadays. Among these surfaces, the slat located on the leading edge of the wing and extending over much of its length, becomes a significant noise generator. Based on this premise, this project aims to study the noise caused by a seal located on slat cove that has functions such as mechanical protection of the mechanism during its retraction as isolation of the region between the slat and the main element of the wing in the situation where the slat is no longer needed, avoiding the flow not foreseen in the project. For this study, we intend to analyze computationally the unsteady flow through the slat with seal using a commercial code, the PowerFlow, which is based on Lattice-Boltzmann method.
