Abstract

Metabolism plays an important role in bioaccumulation of xenobiotics in sh. The aim of the work is to evaluate the bioaccumulation and biotransformation of pharmaceuticals compounds in fish, assessing the toxicological effects to the biota. Bioaccumulation assays will be carried out by exposure of fish (Pimephales promelas) and comparison of the found concentrations to the one of surface waters. Fish-liver microsomal fractions will be used for in vitro biotransformation. The applicability of sh liver microsomes for xenobiotics bioaccumulation assessment will be investigated. Residues of fluoroquinolones antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals from treated sewage discharges will be analyzed, to determine metabolic routes and bioaccumulation profiles. The biotransformation results will be compared with the results obtained from studies of bioaccumulation and behavioral observations. (AU)
