Abstract

Given the major interest in alternative energy sources, fuel cells have been a focus of intensive research and development recently, both in academic and commercial environments. Simultaneously, the development of computational models for simulations is of particular significance, given the possibility of reducing expenses in the research of these devices, especially in cell stacks. Therefore the main objective of this project is the development of a computational model for the application in experimental unitary and stack systems of PEM type fuel cells, and validation using the polarization curve, current density distribution, and temperature profile. Additionally, the model will be used in ways of assisting in the comprehension of the physical processes in the device and interpretation of experimental data. (AU)
