Abstract

The subject on this research is to study the formation and action of the Polícia Militar do Estado de São Paulo (Military Police of the State of São Paulo) in the Metropolitan region, during the civil military dictatorship. The regime s "autoritarian utopia" looked for create officials and non-officials mechanisms, that could increase the police repressive power. The new corporation, created in 1970, begin to use fighting political crime tactics on the popular class repression. However, if the political police of this period was subject of many studies, that not happened with the corporations that are responsable for the commom policing. So, the police formation process and everyday work, with new uses of violence and the "police culture" relation with the military regime, remain questions that deserve a depth approach. So, will be used as sources the Polícia Militar official bulletins and the DEOPS/SP documentation that deal with the corporation, besides, as additional sources, policemen memories and press.
