Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the bispectral index and hemodynamic and respiratory effects of continuous infusion of propofol with or without fentanyl in calves. For such, eight calves with six to 12 months of age, Holstein, weighing 70-120 kg will be used. The animals will be induced to anesthesia with propofol at a dose of 5 mg / kg, intravenously, the control group (GP), or propofol 3 mg / kg associate fentanyl 0.001 mg / kg, intravenously, group (GF) and positioned in right lateral recumbency, where remain spontaneously breathing ambient air. Immediately thereafter, the maintenance of anesthesia will be performed by continuous infusion of propofol at a rate of 0.6 mg / kg / minute infusion with or without fentanyl 0.001 mg / kg / hour. In both groups the drugs to be administered by infusion pump for 60 minutes. The measurements of hemodynamic parameters (HR, SAP, DAP, MAP, CO, CVP, mPAP, PAPOm, CI, SI, SVRI and PVRI), respiratory (ETCO2, f, SpO2, and VTE, VME) and bispectral index (BIS, EMG and SQI) will be evaluated before induction of anesthesia (MB), 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes after the start of infusion of the drug (M15, M30, M45 and M60, respectively). The data will be submitted to analysis of variance with repeated measures and multiple comparisons of means adjusted for Tukey test at a significance level of 5%. The data will be tested for normality by the Shapiro-Wilk test.
