Abstract

Introduction: receptive vocabulary refers to spoken words that children can understand. Reading comprehension involves cognitive processes and requires decoding efficiency. Accordingly, to investigate the association between receptive vocabulary and reading comprehension of students in the 5th grade is important, since fluent decoding skills and metaphonological proficiency not guarantee an accurate reading comprehension. Objective: to characterize the performance of students from the 5th grade of elementary school, with and without signs of disorders in reading and writing, regarding receptive vocabulary and reading comprehension identifying possible correlations between them. Method: Participants in this study will be 60 children from 5th grade of elementary school of a public school, with an without signs of disorders in reading and writing. The subjects will be evaluated individually. Initially all of them will perform a specific test for assessment of receptive vocabulary through the vocabulary auditory-TVF Usp1 test - Vocabulary Test Figures Usp. T Then, in another situation students will be assessed concerning reading comprehension of sentences and texts using PROLEC test. Analysis of Results: Data collected will be statically analyzed using descriptive and inferential testes. (AU)
