Abstract Clinical field tests, such as six minute walk test and incremental shuttle walk test (ISWT), have been widely used in clinical practice, because it is not necessary expensive equipment, and can be performed only by a professional. Although widely used in adults, in children the SWTI has been less explored as a tool for assessment of functional capacity. Reason for this may be that there is no reference equation that can predict the distance traveled. Objective: To determine reference values and describe prediction equation for the incremental shuttle walk test in the pediatric population. Materials and Methods: There will be a cross-sectional study in healthy subjects from high schools and elementary. Inclusion criteria: individuals between 6 and 18 years, with no acute or chronic cardiopulmonary disease, absence of neuromuscular dysfunction, spirometry within normal limits. Exclusion criteria: physical activity more than twice a week, unable to perform the tests satisfactorily, chronic use of medication, smoking, FEV1 and FVC less than 80% predicted, premature birth. Lung function will be assessed by spirometry. It will be performed at the beginning of the protocol to determine the normal lung function. The ISWT consists of walking repetitively on circle of 10meters. Two tests will be performed and the best test is going to be used for analysis. At the beginning and end of the test will be evaluated heart rate, blood pressure and Borg scale. The SpO2 value is continuously monitored during the test. | |
