Abstract

The painting illusionistic perspective and was one of the methods used by the artists of the XVI and XIX century - the period from the Renaissance to Rococo - to engage the viewer with the architecture and painting called trompe l'oeil. Thus, the sacred painters, using methods developed by theoretical treatises and the pictorial illusionism, fantasized with those resources, vaults or liners of sacred buildings to celestial space (vision) could be in direct communion with the dictates of the Council Trento. Maid in European paintings (perspécticos effects or quadrature) was deployed here since 1732 by Caetano da Costa Coelho (active in Rio from 1706 to 1749) in Rio de Janeiro and José Joaquim da Rocha (1737-1807) in Bahia, Minas Gerais painting perspective reaches its peak with the work of Manuel da Costa Ataide (1762-1830) - Master Ataíde -. Soon, numerous churches in Brazil's colonial paintings that have illusionists. Among the works of the State of São Paulo, some deserve special attention for their peculiarities and specificity, the paintings are located in the city of São Paulo, Itu and Mogi das Cruzes. Something that is not recurring in the history of painting the city of São Paulo, using paintings Illusionists, but some churches in these cities in particular are holding works that category. Based on this specificity, this research aims to ascertain the authorship of paintings illusionists colonial churches located in cities, proposals above raise the influences exerted on the technique used to analyze these works and their multiple aspects, due to the lack of studies on these paintings.
