Abstract

The lack of work about international migration on Brazilian Northeast, during the 19th century and the beginning of 20th century shouldn't be faced as if it didn't exist. On the contrary, immigration and colonization attempts were found in five Brazilian Northeast states. Otherwise, on literature about the topic, some states haven't been mentioned. This project pretends to fill that remained gap. The intention is to identify the statewide discussion of international immigration between the political leaders from the states of Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba, through vintage journals from the specified centuries and official documents such as "Minutes of the Legislative Assemblies" and "Collection of Laws and Decrees". The main idea is to discover if there was any intention of international migration: if there was this possibility, why hasn't it realized? Or if there is a lack of projects about immigration, why decide not to promote them? In order to be more particular, it's set out a specific historical period, during the First Republic (Primeira República - 1889-1930). It's expected to break down the regional isolation from others specialist's research, which developed systematic works about the Southeast and South regions, becoming possible to create an open path to many other underlying questions.
