Abstract

It is going to be used the peroneal cranial tibial muscle and tibial gastrocnemius muscle model in rats to do a comparison between the end to side nerve repair and the end to end nerve repair either with mixed and motor nerves. Sixty Wister rats will be divided into six groups, ten animals each group. Preoperative walking track analysis and measure of the leg perimeter will be done. Group 1 is normal control group, Group 2 is denervated control group, Group 3 an end to side neurorrhaphy between the distal peroneal nerve and the side of the tibial nerve, Group 4 end to end neurrohaphy between the motor branch supplying the lateral head of gastrocnemius muscle and the distal peroneal stump, Group 5 end to side neurorrhphy between the distal peroneal and the motor branch of the lateral head of gastrocnemius muscle and Group 6 an end to end neurorrhaphy between the two ends of peroneal nerve. For results evaluation, every 30 days the walking track will be recorded for each rat, after 4 month the rats are going to be anethesied again and leg perimeter will be measured, and electrophsiological study, forced muscle contraction will be done too. This will be followed by harvesting of the cranial tibial muscle and gastrocnemius muscle which their mass will be measured. Also harvesting of the peroneal nerve distal stump will follow. Both muscles and nerves will be prepared for histomorphometric analysis. The results will be submitted to the ANOVA test and, if a statistical difference detected, Turkey's test will be followed.
