Abstract

Gloxinieae (Gesneriaceae) have been restructured in the last years based on phylogenetic studies. The relationship between two Gloxinieae genera, find predominantly on Central Brazil region, Mandirola and Goyazia, and the delimitation of the Mandirola species (Mandirola hirsuta, M. rupestris, M. ichthyostoma and M. multiflora) are not well understood. Morphometry, the study of life's form and size usually using multivariate and statistical analyses, has been successful in resolving taxonomic questions that would be difficult to solve with traditional systematic methods. The aims of this work are: 1) to clarify the taxonomic delimitation of the Mandirola hirsuta/M. rupestris/M. ichthyostoma/M. multiflora complex; 2) to explore the morphologic variation in Mandirola and provide diagnostic characters for the recognition of taxa involved in this complex; 3) to understand the processes of speciation and possible hybridizations within Mandirola. In this study morphometric analyzes will be used, including nine vegetative characters and 19 floral characters about five to ten individuals per population, a total of approximately 30 populations. The analysis will include Tukey test, principal component analysis (PCA), discriminant analysis, canonical variate analysis (CVA) and cluster analysis. (AU)
