Abstract

This project consists on the synthesis and characterization of lanthanum fluoride nanoparticles via precipitation method using ammonium fluoride (NH4F) and lanthanum nitrate (La(NO3)3.6H2O) as reactants. The surface of the nanoparticles will be modified during the synthesis to obtain a core-shell conformation. This will reduce the formation of aggregates, facilitating the homogeneous incorporation of these nanoparticles in polymeric matrixes. The formation of homogeneous films will allow the coating of other materials used in applications related to radiological protection. Therefore, these nanoparticles will be dispersed in nitrile rubber (NBR) to prepare a composite that will be characterized by several techniques, including its capacity of X ray attenuation.
