Abstract

This research project will seek to provide a contribution to the debate on consumption in medium-sized cities of Marilia, Presidente Prudente, and São Carlos in São Paulo. Put the focus on the effects that foreign trade as a practice aimed at the logic of globalization, these prints in their cities and regional areas. In this context, we try to assess the qualitative and quantitative determinations of these processes from the consumption potential index - CPI - mean that these cities are identified at multiple scales. In addition, we will work with data collected from the Registry of Commerce - SECEX, under the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade - MDIC to systematize companies that exported and imported, and also what were the products and branches of trade and services that had more relevance in this context. Are two databases justify our interest in expanding the scale of analysis of the effects of consumption in these cities' averages, as well as understand their regional areas through 'inter-spatial interactions.
