Abstract

The plant kingdom has emerged as an important source of compounds to be used for disease treatment in humans and other animals. This huge diversity of organic compounds represents an important source for searching new therapeutic agents. Resveratrol is a stilbene considered one of the promising molecules with biological properties for pharmacological purposes. The chemical structure modification is among the strategies to improve de biological properties of resveratrol and results in compounds such as the (E)-4-(3,5-dimethoxystyryl)aniline (EMA) and (Z)-1,3-dimethoxy-5-(4-methoxystyryl)benzene (ZMB). The genotoxic analysis is an important step for determination of the biological properties of new compounds. Therefore, the objectives of the present study are to evaluate in vitro the genotoxicity of EMA and ZMB in CHO-K1 cell line using the comet and micronucleus assay after cytototoxicity determination by the clonogenic surveillance assay.
