Abstract

Near Miss is any case in which a woman survived a severe acute organ dysfunction during pregnancy, childbirth or within 42 days after delivery. This definition includes specific criteria, which included the conditions that if not treated properly or not diagnosed early, lead to maternal death. This study aims at collecting and analyzing data related to calls made to pregnant and postpartum women in the hospital complex composed of the Hospital of Clinics of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo (HC-FMRP and Campus Emergency Unit) and Reference Center for Women's Health of Ribeirão Preto (MATER). Methods: Data collection will be conducted through the database of the FMRP-HCRP in the period November 2009 to September 2012, followed by selection of patients that fit in the requirements of the World Health Organization to be classified as Near Miss or Severe Maternal Morbidity. Will be performed chart review of patients selected. After that, the data will be analyzed in search from the major events in obstetrics classified as near miss and severe maternal morbidity, and potential risk factors for its occurrence.
