Abstract

This cohort study both quantitative and qualitative aims to evaluate the risk of oral disease and the relationship between the individual vulnerability / social / programmatic in a teenage population 15-19 years in Piracicaba-SP. Two phases quantitative and qualitative-quantitative research will compose. In the first phase, already completed, we collected information regarding risk assessment (white spot, dental caries, periodontal disease, malocclusion and fluorosis). Socioeconomic, behavioral, demographic and psychosocial variables were recorded by means of the OIDP, Who-Qol, semi-structured questionnaire and socioeconomic status. In the second phase will be developed four studies: two quantitative observational, one qualitative and qualitative and quantitative longitudinal. Both quantitative observational studies will test the influence of individual variables and contextual level with caries and periodontal disease, respectively. The third study, qualitative seek to understand the meaning that people have about the illness, oral health and care. The fourth study, qualitative and quantitative longitudinal development will be on five occasions, and checked a few key points as variables that affect the dental treatment noncompliance; investigate the reasons for adherence to the dental treatment of adolescents referred to Family Health Units (FHU); understand the subjects' perception about the causes that influenced not attending adolescent dental treatment; intervene in a participatory manner, in families of adolescents did not adhere to dental treatment, and finally analyze the perception health professionals about the impact that the lack of adherence has on the health of users. The initial probability sample consisted of 1202 adolescents from two social spaces: a) Family Health Units (FHU) and b) Public Schools of the city of Piracicaba-SP.
