Abstract

The sharks Carcharhinus falciformis and Carcharhinus signatus are characterized by inhabit epipelágico environment, warm waters and temperate worldwide and are highly migratory. Furthermore, area overly captured by industrial fisheries of various country, like bycatch, mainly by fisheries pelagic longline, that main catch of tunas and swordfish. Therefore, conservation actions require efforts of various country, task in the Atlantic Ocean racing at International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas - ICCAT. Due to the overfishing, actually more of 90% of the large pelagic fishes, include sharks overexploited in worldwide. Furthermore, the southwestern of Atlantic Ocean, is an strategic area of conservation this species, why be considered a hotspot of richness and diversity of the sharks species. The goal this project, is infer about the actually population status of C. falciformis and C. signatus in western Atlantic Ocean, including analysis about environmental and spatial effects about the distribution and abundance this species. Furthermore, will be analyzed aspects of genetics variability of the Oceanic Atlantic population. The results may be utilized in the management fisheries these species, that are classified by the IUCN Red List (International Union for Conservation of Nature) with status of the near threatened (C. falciformis) and vulnerable (C. signatus), respectively.
