Abstract

In this research, I aim to discuss some artists who operationalize cross-dressing and a female (alter) ego in their works, such as Marcel Duchamp/Rrose Sélavy and Michel Journiac. What is at stake is how the practice of cross-dressing is marked by a manipulation of some diacritical signs - clothes, ornaments, but also body, gestures and performances - in order to make a different and creative use of the norms and how this differential use subverts the underlying principles of the very norms out of which they arise and that make them possible and significant.
