Biogas production is becoming increasingly important in the environmental area because besides treating wastewaters, also generates energy. The co-digestion has become more and more powerful since it is possible, with the use of abundant and cheap substrates, dilute inhibitory effects of various other substrates, making the process of anaerobic digestion more efficient and stable. Biogas process modelling describes the kinetics and stoichiometric of different steps in the anaerobic digestion process. This mathematical modelling provides an understanding of processes and interactions occurring inside the biogas system. The present project will investigate interactions between different co-substrates under co-digestion with manure, in order to establish high efficiency and stability of manure co-digestion processes. All necessary data for model input will be collected to setup the co-digestion model. After this, different co-digestion scenario will be simulated to study the effect of: a) types of substrate combinations; b) substrate feed ratios; c) organic loading rate; d) substrate feeding cycle; and e) combination of these parameters.
