Abstract

This Project covers the topic of financing of political competition and its links with other aspects of the political system, namely political participation, the politics of interest groups and the role of political parties in managing campaign funds. The research is based on data from the electoral management body TSE in Brasil, covering the period since 2002, data from the statistics office IBGE, information on the private sector in Brazil and survey data on citizen participation and corporate political involvement in Brazil. The main questions that guide our research are: 1. Which are the main factors explaining the amount and variations of donating money for political campaigning in Brazil? 2. To what extent does the amount of money raised by candidates and parties explain election outcomes in Brazil? 3. How does campaign money impact the relation between donors, parties and candidates in Brazil? (AU)
