Abstract

In the current state-of-the-art, the Two-Time Scale (TTS) CUEP/BCU method takes advantage of the existence of fast and slow time scales in the power systems mathematical models in order to decompose CUEP calculations in direct transient stability analysis into the CUEP calculation of the slow and fast subsystems. However, the TTS-CUEP/BCU method was demonstrated for power system models composed exclusively of ordinary differential equations, which imposes restrictions on its applications to more realistic (structure preserving) power system models. Also the separation of the power system dynamic into distinct time-scales can provide efficient, and still not exploited, direct tools for the joint treatment of the transient and voltage stability analysis in mid-term stability problems. The candidate's earlier approved post-doctorate research project (granted by FAPESP under process no 2012/19589-1) proposes the development for the TTS-CUEP/BCU method in the following directions: (i) to extend the TTS-CUEP/BCU theory for differential-algebraic models of power systems, (ii) to extend the TTS-CUEP/BCU method for transient and voltage mid-term stability analysis, and (iii) to apply the TTS-CUEP/BCU method for more comprehensive power systems models. The present research project, associated with the post-doctorate research project of the candidate, proposes a research internship abroad in the ECE school - Cornell University (Ithaca/NY - USA), under the supervision of Professor Hsia-Dong Chiang, with the main aim of developing TTS-CUEP/BCU applications focused in mid-term stability analysis of power systems and consequently promote the objectives (i-iii) of the ongoing post-doctorate research project of the candidate in Brazil.
