Abstract

This project aims at evaluating the effect of adding glass fibers on the elastic modulus, flexural strength, and polymerization shrinkage of experimental resin composites. Nine composites will be evaluated, three containing fibers E- K (7 - 13 µm in diameter, 1.6 mm long), three containing only barium glass particles (2¼m) and three containing equal volumes of fibers and glass particles. The biaxial flexural test will be performed using a device type " piston on three balls." Shrinkage will be determined using a helium pycnometer to estimate the dimensional change undergone by the materials during polymerization. The values of density will be determined before and after polymerization and shrinkage will be calculated as the the variation between the initial and final volumes. Samples will be tested for normality and homogeneity of variance using Levene's test and Anderson-Darling, respectively. Then the data will be subjected to two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test, with a global significance level of 5%.
