Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of composition on polymerization characteristics of experimental composites in order to obtain materials with optimized physical and mechanical properties for dental application. Experimental composites with different type and concentration of photoinitiators and different type and size of fillers will be prepared and evaluated. In first stage of this study, the influence of the photoinitiation system (CQ, PPD, BAPO e associations, at 1 or 2%) will be determined Characteristics of experimental composites will be determinate evaluating: degree of conversion, crosslinking density, hardness, depth of polymerization, flexural strength, elastic modulus, polymerization shrinkage and shrinkage stress. In second stage, the influence of the type and size of filler particles (barium glass, feldspar, silica) will be determined. Initially the morphological characteristics of each filler will be evaluated using Scanning Electron Microscopy. Characteristics of experimental composites will be determinate evaluating: degree of conversion, hardness, depth of polymerization, flexural strength, elastic modulus, polymerization shrinkage, shrinkage stress, roughness and topography. In addition, marginal and internal adaptation of the experimental composite restorations will be evaluated. All data will be submitted to appropriate statistical analysis at 5% significance. (AU)
