Abstract

In the potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) cultivation are used high doses of phosphate fertilizers. However, with the growing concern about pollution phosphate and the rising cost of production of potato in recent years, new alternatives have been studied to improve the efficiency of phosphorus in this crop. Silicon fertilization promotes several benefits to potato, besides being a promising technique to improve the utilization of phosphorus (P) applied as it may increase the availability of P in soil by competition from silicon (Si) for adsorption sites. The objective of this work is to evaluate the effect of silicon fertilization on the availability of P in soil, nutrition and tuber yield of potato grown under different rates of phosphorus. The experiment will be conducted in a greenhouse in a randomized blocks, in 4x3 factorial with four replications. The treatments will be constituted by the application of 10, 50, 100, and 200 mg dm-3 of P combined with 0, 50 and 200 mg dm-3 of Si. Will be evaluated: a) foliar diagnosis; b) the number, weight and yield of tubers; c) dry matter accumulation in roots, tubers, shoots, and whole plant; d) concentration and accumulation of P and Si; e) efficiency of use of absorbed P; and f) Si and P concentrations in soil after harvesting. The data will be submitted to analysis of variance. The effects of phosphorus rates will be evaluated by regression analysis and the effects of silicon fertilization will be evaluated by t test (DMS), a 5 % probability.
