Abstract

The etiology of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is multifactorial related to genetic, environmental nutritional and metabolic factors. Recent studies demonstrate the importance of signaling pathway of NOD2 receptor in the maintenance of homeostasis between the immune system and the gut flora. Unlike the human genome, the microorganism genome into the intestinal microbiota is likely to dynamic changes in the configuration of its components as adaptation of a single component or a community in response to the type of food, any abnormality or use of antibiotics. The causal interaction between gut microbiota and obesity has been reported in germ-free mice colonized with the gut microbiota of obese ob/ob mice that showed greater weight gain compared to those who received the microbiota of lean mice. This study infers that the microbiota is involved in the control of energetic metabolism. Another mechanism by which the microbiome contributes to metabolic disorders would be initiating a systemic inflammation. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the importance of NOD2 receptor in insulin resistance and development of T2DM, as well as to test the interference of the intestinal microbiota in this process.
