Abstract

The Land Reform Market (RAM) was introduced in Brazil during the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso (FHC) under strong opposition from social movements, such as the Movement of Landless Rural Workers (MST) and Via Campesina. However, Brazil has become one of the biggest loan borrowers from the World Bank (WB), criminalizing peasant movements and encouraging the new agrarian reform project. In Pontal do Paranapanema, one of the regions of the country where conflictualities between peasantry and agribusiness are more marked, is necessary investigate the programs RAM in region. This research project aims to understand the nodes and the problems involved in the implementation of the RAM in Presidente Prudente, seeking to make a case study in São José settlement during the period 2001 and 2013.
