Abstract

Urban facilities such as complex hospitals have a very accelerated spatial renewal. The daily operational flows (users, materials and equipments) are quite complex in various ways and its organization depends on the competence and excellence of their institutions. The main goal is to evaluate which are the notable aspects that emerge from the analysis of the architecture of selected complex hospitals in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. To reach this purpose, an approach of post-use evaluation, regarding the users and equipments flows, will be used in order to subsidize any rearrangements of internal configurations of these hospitals. The research´s objective, by means of case studies, is based on the evidence or not that the anticipated study of flows in the pre-design phase in pre-existing hospitals defines the architectural characteristics of its expansions, so that their environments become more familiar to users. Therefore, it is intended to seek and discuss theory flows based on Brazilian and international hospital designs. In addiction it will be develop an application from this methodological content using some of Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE) instruments while these hospitals are operating. Pre-existing hospitals in spontaneous growth will be studied from the point of view of its design, construction, modification and use; Pre-existing hospitals with anticipated flows will be studied from the point of view of their pre-designs. It will be noted the use of the environments by their users, taking into account satisfactory aspects and those to be improved. It is intend to demonstrate how the study of flows can contribute in many topics in the development of complex hospitals design and be adopted for the quality management of this type of environment health.
