Drive ethics: the circuit in return of existence

Abstract

The lacanian statement that the unconsious status is ethical, and not ontic, currently requires reviews of its extension and of its clinical implications. Identifying the sinthome (using this word spelling to distinguish it from symptoms that can be analyzed, deciphered) as a final analysis criterion (and, hence, ist target) falls within the escope of these reviews. My research, problematizing this criterion from a drive perspective, proposes a new revision of that statement, being the analytic target not the symptom anymore, but sublimation, understood as the originating target of the drive. This review argues, moreover, that it has always been like this, despite of the deviations and the obscurities that have so far appeared in the treatment of the analytical field. A distinction must be inescapably made: to be responsible (ethically) for the sinthoma (the bone", in the words of J.A Miller) and for the unconscious oddities is not the same thing as practicing the unconscious ethic, it is not confused with de exercise of the drive. This exercise, being itself ethic consistent, graduate at each time the existence and the choice condition. The first case is not repealed by the second, but it is reread and directed by it. Such reordering of ethical analisys may prove its consistency during clinical application. To do it so, I shall analytically investigate the literary and clinic event that bears the name of Wilson Bueno. (AU)
