Abstract

This project is connected to our current doctoral research, in development in Brazil, on which we seek to follow the elaboration of the theme of the aesthetics of existence in Michel Foucault as a key element for his philosophical project. Refusing the proposition that the French philosopher, when devoted to the aesthetics of existence, would have abandoned the political field and returned to the universal subject, we intend to examine the passage from the analysis of the government of bodies to the problematization of the government of self and how this movement is connected with the problem of "resistance". More than a hermeneutical approach to his work, in so doing we intend to extend the question of thinking differently from how one thinks, or about the possibility of doing philosophy today. What we propose, concerning the research in Paris, is an investigation of the relations of the aesthetics of existence and the ontology of the present coined by Foucault on his late works, trying to evidence, in its depth, besides the evident dialogue with Kant, the stinging presence of Nietzsche's philosophy. Our hypothesis is that from the tension between these two philosophies emerges Foucault's position in relation to philosophical tradition. The realization of this phase of our research will be supervised by Professor Judith Revel - one of the most important Foucault's expert on activity in the world today, who has produced important reference works about this author - and all the support of the Department of Philosophy at the Université Paris-Ouest Nanterre La Défense, where she teaches.
