Abstract The appeal of consumers for better quality nutritional food is propelling the industry and research to meet these demands. In dairy cattle, the composition and fatty acid profile in milk has been one of the targets, mainly due to the inconsistency between the relationship of these compounds in milk and human requirement. Several tools are available and are able to promote changes in milk composition, among them the recently combined traditional animal breeding with molecular genetics, providing a faster genetic progress in these traits. With the advent of discovery in large-scale of SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) markers made possible the development of a methodology that allows the association between phenotypic measures with specific genotypes. These advances in molecular area allow expanding the knowledge about the genetic architecture of traits, such as epistatic interactions between genes. Thus, the aim of this study is to identify epistatic interactions between SNPs markers associated with composition and fatty acid profile in bovine milk. For this, we will use genomic and phenotypic information (n = 800) of traits related to the composition and fatty acid profile in milk of Holstein cows which will be analyzed in an animal model. | |
