Abstract

Intervertebral disc disease is a very common condition in dogs, affecting predominantly chondrodistrophic races. The thoracolumbar disc disease is the most common cause of neurological dysfunction in small animals. The signals associated with the prolapsed disc may vary spinal pain, paresis, paralysis and loss of sensation of pain conscious. The technique used to decompress the discs thoracolumbar hemilaminectomy is typically involving removal of bone and facet joints adjacent pedicle. Alternatively, the mini-hemilaminectomy preserves facets and removes the ventral pedicle bone. This research aims to make a study of the biomechanical characteristics of canine thoracolumbar spine forward to bending forces and measure the destabilizing effects of various hemilaminectomias and mini hemilaminectomias unilateral straight segment between T11 and L2. Thoracolumbar 20 columns are used for dogs are divided into two groups. To achieve the biomechanical tests will be used to Kratos testing machine 5000 (model KE3000MP series M1012931 and load cell of 100 kg). For each specimen, five biomechanical tests will be performed, the control segment intact and after performing one, two, three and four hemilaminectomias or mini hemilaminectomias.
