Abstract

Heat sinks have kept up with technology miniaturization of devices, being intensely studied by the electronics industry and research institutions in developed countries and in the early stages here in Brazil. The design and manufacture of microchannel based heat sink with submicron thickness fins has been the biggest bottleneck in the progress of this research, because the current manufacturing methods allow only the use of EDM and machining with discs of reduced thickness, these methods that hinder the production of microchannels with different geometry for specific applications. An example, the sinks bio-inspired, based on the structure of the vascular plant leaves. The porous structure in plants has shown good geometric configurations to higher rates of heat dissipation by minimizing the pressure loss during heat exchange. Order to make feasible this type of microdevice, the objective of this research project is micromachine an injection micromold, consisting of metal with ultrafine grains for microchannel based heat sink replication through micromilling operation in CNC micromachining center. The proposal includes the extension of the phenomenological studies of machinability and surface integrity of the piece in micromilling performed in the proponent´s PhD project (Process 2010/06140-0), and BEPE (Process 2012/13363-1) both supported by FAPESP. This research project is related to the topic of PhD supported by CAPES (Process 00011/07-0), whose studies of heat transfer in the microinjection piece will be performed.
