Abstract

Numerous natural sources have been used as starting materials in the process of obtaining new therapeutic products in which a wide variety of secondary metabolites has promoted investigations and investments in research. The aim of the present project is the study of the antifungal activity of fractions and subfractions of the ethanol extract of Pothomorphe umbellata ( L.) Miq, popularly known as pariparoba or caapeba. Previous studies from this laboratory has shown good activity against strains of dermatophytes. This study will be used the yeast strains Candida albicans , Candida krusei , Candida parapsilosis and Candida tropicalis, kept in the laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology-BiotecFar, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Araraquara/UNESP. The methodology for the evaluation of antifungal activity in vitro will be performed by the broth microdilution method for determination of Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Fungicidal Concentration (MFC). With this purpose we aim to expand the role of micro -organisms that P. umbellata can take action to facilitate future development of new antifungal products.
