Abstract

This work will be carried out to evaluate the effects of adding Bacillus subtilis (probiotic), a commercial mixture of essential oils or a combination of both in the diet on the performance and intestinal morphology in the small intestine of chickens. For this, we used 990 broiler chickens of Cobb-500 ®, distributed in a completely randomized design with five treatments and six replicates of 33 birds each. The treatments consisted of: control diet (CD), DC + 10 ppm Avilamycin (ANTI), DC + essential oil 120 g / 1000 kg of feed (OE), DC + Bacillus subtilis 500 g / 1000 kg ration (PRO) , DC + 80 g essential oil + 500 g Bacillus subtilis / 1000 kg of feed (OE + PRO). At 7, 21 and 42 days of age was obtained for zootechnical performance data and samples were collected approximately 10 cm from the middle portion of the jejunum, through repetition of a bird to assess the following parameters: villus height, depth crypts and goblet cell number. The data will be submitted to analysis of variance by the General Linear Model (GLM) of SAS ® (SAS Institute, 2002) and in case of a statistically significant difference (p <0.05), the averages are compared by Tukey test at 5% probability.
