Abstract

The development of new processes and the search for new materials is essential for obtaining efficient phosphors that absorb radiation in the ultraviolet region and adequate chemical stability. Among different ways for the preparation of phosphors materials, one of the most promising is the Evaporation Induced Self Assembly (EISA) process that involves progressive concentration of non-volatile species. Spray pyrolysis is a method of producing particles, in which a vaporized stream of precursor solution is dried, precipitated, and decomposed in a tubular furnace reactor. During the process the reaction and aggregation volume are confined within a micrometric droplet, which contains precursors of the same stoichiometry as desired in the product. However, the control the particles diameter is the major challenge in SP process, which usually generates particles from 50 nm to 2.0 ¼m. In this project, LaNbO4:Eu3+ monodisperse spherical nanoparticles will be prepared by spray pyrolysis in order to obtain a new phosphors red-emitting. In addition, the study of the structural properties/morphology and luminescent properties is very important to the development of new luminescent materials. The matrices prepared will be initially investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which intends to investigate the morphology and particle size. Further information will be obtained through the techniques of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and mainly through spectroscopic luminescence (excitation, absorption and emission) and vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR).
