Abstract

The field of childhood studies is different in different countries. The literature reveals that Sociology and Anthropology are forerunners in the interdisciplinary social studies of childhood, in dialogue with the Geography, Law, Education, among others. In Brazil, there is a link between research groups on early childhood education and the concepts and propositions from Sociology of Childhood. Childhood Studies are mainly located in Post-Graduate programs on Education. In other countries, there are interdisciplinary centers for research of childhood, which are the subject of this investigation. As a methodological resource we intend to study them by using constant and sustained dialogue with a senior researcher of this field. Four research centers will be examined through visits, observation, interviews. The study of the relationship between the nature of Childhood Studies research and the disciplinary context within which is located, with special reference to variations between Childhood Studies undertaken in Education Departments and those undertaken in other disciplinary fields, is the aim of the research.
