Abstract

Distribution system planning problem of long-term are complex combinatorial problem presenting combinatorial explosion phenomenon and multimodal structure with a higher number of local optima. In addition to its complexity this problem presents multi-objective nature, which must be properly handled to prevent that decision making elements are implicitly incorporated into the model. Traditional models presented to planning problem, include expansion of existing circuits and substations and construction of new ones, subject to a set of technical and economic constraints. This research project in addition to traditional planning actions intends to include allocation of distributed generation in the planning model, considering the nature of generation source and its stochastic characteristic and different generation owners with their power purchase contracts, established by market conditions. Another uncertainty source to be studied and evaluated during the planning stage is the demand forecasts at buses system load. Considering the stochastic characteristic of the problem objective functions considered in the model will be: investment and operation costs; and reliability costs, evaluated through non-supplied energy costs. To solve the model we propose a multiobjective tabu search algorithm, which has proved very effective in solving complex combinatorial problems. The model and solution technique which must be developed will be tested and validate in known study cases in the literature. (AU)
