Abstract

Nonlinear structures are frequent in structural dynamics, mainly considering screwed components, with joints, clearance or with flexible components with large displacements. In this sense, the health monitoring of these structures based in classical modal parameters can fail since these concepts are fundamentally based in the superposition principle. In this way, the use of Volterra series for the identification of nonlinear systems is interesting since it is a generalization of the concept of convolution. This doctorate research project proposes the application of this technique in the development of techniques in structural health monitoring to nonlinear structures as a metric for damage detection and quantification. This methodology will be applied in experimental benchmark to verify the robustness of the strategy in real structures under linear and nonlinear structural variations. It is expected that the results show the advantages in the use of nonlinear models in structural dynamics. (AU)
