Abstract

The development of semiconductor growth allows today the use of these materials for the study of fundamental aspects of condensed matter physics. Among these systems, a particular interest is in quantum dots, systems where the carriers are confined in three dimensions. In this project we will study two situations where we explore the quantum dots to the understanding of fundamental aspects of condensed matter: 1) quantum dots coupled with two-dimensional gas of carriers and 2) quantum dots formed by physical systems that exhibit topological properties. The focus of this project is in the first case, and the second will be developed with more exploratory goals.
