Abstract

This project is related to the study of the effect of surface treatments by plasma on aluminum alloys for the purpose of enhancing the adhesion of the paint coating to the metal. Considering that the aluminum alloys are very applied in the aeronautic and automotive industries, it is important to increase its useful life. The treatments to be employed are Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) and Plasma Jet. After the treatment, the characterization of the treated and untreated samples is carried out to verify which treatment was more efficient in obtaining the better adhesion of the paint coating to the aluminum alloy. For this purpose, it will be used some characterization methods, such as: scanning electron microscope; contact angle measurements for the wettability determination and the surface adhesion, scratching tests and perfilometry.
