Abstract

Introduction: Mandibulofacial dysostoses (MFDs) are a genetically heterogeneous group of conditions, mainly characterized by hypoplasia of the zygomatic arch, mandibular hypoplasia, and ear anomalies. Objectives: Characterize the craniofacial morphology of the different types of MFD and investigating changes of mandible, maxilla, zygomatic arch complex and of mandibular condyle in the sample by means of radiological evaluation. Methods: Will be part of this study 50 individuals diagnosed as MFD, registered in the database of the Section of Clinical Genetics, Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies. Individuals diagnosed with MFD who returned to hospital for routine consultations, during the term of this study will be invited to participate in the study and review database genetic clinics will be obtained from medical records. For radiological assessments will be considered X-rays and CT (or helical cone beam) existing. Only will be new tests required only when necessary, that is when the individual has not yet been submitted to the radiological evaluation of face. Form of analysis results: A clinical data and morphological data will be descriptive tabular and descriptive statistics will be used considering the absolute frequencies and percentages. To compare the values of angular and linear cephalometric measurements of individuals with the MFD reference measurements, will be used the Student t test, adopting a significance level of 5% (p <0,05).
