Abstract

The goal of this project is to understand the look that the photographer Sebastião Salgado has produced about Latin America, from the photobook Outras Américas, published in 1999 in Brazil by Editora Companhia das Letras. The photographs in Other Americas were the result of a documentary project that lasted about seven years, in which Salgado ran some Latin American countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala, Peru and Bolivia. In our working hypothesis the idea that the photographer helped build the imagination of peasants in Latin America and how the historical forces contributed to this construction. Researched these hypotheses based on the design of what are the photobooks and how we understand them and interpret them. We use basically the methodology that Horacio Fernandez, Martin Parr and Garry Badger used in his books on photobooks.
