Abstract

The search for a perfect smile has been increased among population. The reason is the media exposure to aligned and white teeth, which represents health; it has also enhanced the esthetic dentistry. These facts have increased the development of techniques and new systems to dental bleaching, which are direct provided to patients as over the counter products, as strip based bleaching systems. However, there are many studies pointing the adverse effects of dental bleaching, as the side effects on dental enamel, changing its microhardness. Then the objective o this study is to evaluate the human dental enamel microhardness after bleaching with strip based systems. This study will use 20 molars sectioned in 60 slabs, they will be polished to obtain a flat surface randomized into 3 groups: unbleached (control - CO), Rembrandt (RS) and Whitestrips (WS). The slabs will be bleached for 2 weeks according to the manufactures daily time and stored in artificial saliva in the rest of the day. The Knoop microhardness will be evaluated in 7 times: baseline, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 days by 5 microhardness measurements in each time. Data will be analyzed by split plot ANOVA and Tukey test with 5% of significance level.
