Abstract

Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is a versatile technique with wide applications in areas such as clinical, forensic, cosmetic, environmental, nutricional and pharmaceutical analyses. It has great importance in drug analysis, since CE has adequate sensitivity, high resolution and quick methods usually using aqueous buffered media. The project aims to develop different protocols and validate methods for pharmaceuticals with a variety of chemical classes, using capillary electrophoresis. The chosen compounds for this purpose have important pharmacological properties. Spironolactone will be analyzed by micellar electrokinetic chromatography(MECK); the other compounds will be analyzed by capillary zone electrophoresis, CZE, with UV detection (direct and indirect modes): epinephrine (determined as cation with direct UV detection; chrysin (determined as anion with direct detection), citrulline (with indirect detection using electrolyte containing an anionic chromophore, DNB, and a molecule that changes the electroosmotic flow, CTAB) and the cations: copper, manganese and chrome (for indirect detection using a cationic chromophore and complexing agent, imidazole/HIBA).
