Abstract

I present my internship application at École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) as a way of advance some important questions in my master's research "(Re) configurations of friendship by young Japanese descendants in face of the participation in Japanese-Brazilian associations". This research intends to comprehend the sociocultural dimensions in the dynamics and understandings of friendship among these youth in Sao Paulo State, Brazil. The fieldwork and the bibliography reading has pointed out the existence of a shared imaginary on friendship that identifies this relationship with the events named Japanese and the relations taken place there. I called that "nakama paulista" and it can be understood in at least two perspectives: one intimate and another public. The first one focus on the possibilities offered in this context for the establishment of more close and intimate relationships; the second one is thought as collectives bonds that are already friendship. In this sense, the challenge and the proposal of this project is to comprehend how this two perspectives relate to one another (and with possible others). For that, the 5-months internship to be realized in Centre d'études des mouvements sociaux (CEMS) under the guidance of Professor Alain Mahé will contribute largely, once the center investigate the relation between different ways of living in the public space and this Professor coordinate a seminar about friendship since 2009.
