Abstract

T. foetus is a kind of protozoa that parasitizes bovine and feline. T. foetus is synonymous with T. suis. In pigs it colonizes the nasal cavity, stomach and cecum. In cattle, the parasite causes early embryonic death, abortion and infertility, so great veterinary and economic interest. In cats, it colonizes the colon, causing colitis, being the predominant clinical signs chronic diarrhea. In veterinary clinical medicine there are three most widespread diagnostic methods that identify the presence of T. foetus in feces of animals: the direct stool smear under the microscope observation, culture and PCR. While the identification of T. foetus as an etiological agent of chronic diarrhea in cats is latest in veterinary medicine, there are many studies trying to elucidate the disease. In Brazil there are no studies on the subject. This project aims to gather information on the occurrence of trichomoniasis in cats in Araçatuba - SP and thus contribute in the routine diagnosis of feline trichomoniasis in veterinary clinical medicine.
