Abstract

Occurrence of severe weather events is of strong concern due to the damage caused to people and infrastructure as well as to the economy, in general. The understanding and predicting the climate behavior has become an essential task the meteorological centers to minimize its impacts. More precisely, the forecast of rainfall has a direct influence on human actions, according to their related daily activities. This proposal has the purpose of develop data mining tools with the objective of identifying the probability of occurrence of extreme rain events. Once identified a condition of severe weather, it will be used to start the operation of a high-resolution forecast model on the region of interest: the ADAPT/BRAMS system. Thus, it is intended to provide a robust method for automatically run this numerical forecast system, determining potential areas for the development of severe weather and extreme rainfall amount. The numerical forecast product will serve as piece of information for the weather prediction at CPTEC/INPE to advise civil defense organizations and society. (AU)
