Abstract

The physics of the production of atmospheric neutrinos involves the calculation of basic reactions of neutrino creation by weak interactions and the processes of absorption and scattering of charged particles, such as pions and muons. We will work with the case of an initial pion flux given by a power law and see how we compute the neutrino fluxes. Later we will include an initial flux of protons and from this will compute the produced pion and neutrino fluxes. After this, we will generalize this result including the absorption and energy loss of pions and muons during the journey. This system is much more complex to solve, and the equations are called cascade or transport equations. We will extend the results including reactions and decays, which do not exist in the Standard Model, to see if we can test such exotic decays in future atmospheric neutrino experiments
