Abstract

Lesions on the brain white matter are commonly found in both asymptomatic and symptomatic neurological patients. The texture analysis and classification on brain MRI makes possible to detect and characterize those lesions. This research internship abroad aims to study the influence of MRI acquisition conditions ontexture analysis and classification in order to make possible the combination of images acquired on different research institutes and to compute a set of robust and representative texture descriptors. In addiction to the opportunity of working and establishing contact with a well-known group with an international reputationfor excellence in medical imaging research, this internship also benefits the Ph.D work development, since it is expected to generate an augmented dataset with images acquired from different research institutes and also an expand set of methods and tools to perform texture analysis and classification. This will make thePh.D results more comparable to the results published on international conferences and journals in the field. (AU)
